Shadowed eyes twitch to the girl to her side, sizing her up quickly. Her face and gaze told of herd, unfeeling survival, with a hint of malice toward anyone she considered lesser then herself. Slate hated that type of street attitude. Sure it won battles, but not many friends, and one needed friends to survive the streets where she came from. It was true, she hadn't grone up in the streets as this girl obviously had, and sure, maybe it wasn't the smartest idea to have climbed up here. But she was different, way different from the other girl. First of all she would never have looked at another like she wanted her to die.
Slate returned the other's glare with a hard stare of her own keeping sharp tabbs on the boy she was previously talking to. Her despiration had forced her up the steps, and like anyone who has a hope of survival, she had taken the oppertunity at hand to find food and possible shelter. She wasn't stupid. But now she was angry; the girls tone had struck a sour note, and Slate didn't take orders from a stranger.
