Hello...I am adopting 3 donkeys and am wondering what I should use for flooring in the 20ft by 20ft barn I'm building. I live in Michigan and am worried about cold/mud. I have 4x4's and treated 4x8's. Should I use these for this winter and then pour cement in the spring (with mats on top)? I could really use the advice! Thanks.

Hello,
We just took in a BLM mustang/or is it a hinny? Is there a way to tell for sure if a animal is a horse or hinny with out blood work. This little 3 year old has mule coloring(bay with light brown trim), horse ears, stands very upright on short straight hooves, and has a mule (rounded head). We have had six long time horse/mule people look at him and they can not agree. If his ears were longer it would be a no brainer.

We have a terrific sorrel, gaited jack (Czeschin bred) of our own, but I would like to find a coal Black with white or silver points Mammoth Jack not under 60 inches. A true mammoth with draft qualities that will cross well with my 17 hand black registered Percheron mare for a draft mule. We're in SW Missouri and I don't mind a weekend trip but if your jack is too far from us, shipped semen would be preferred.
I absolutely love the Bramoth bred jacks so check them out if you're wondering what I'm looking for. They are massive in size and conformation that is just excellent. Bramoth Farms will not breed to mares there so I'd love to find one of their jacks offspring if anyone knows where there is a jack standing of Jen Jack or Ol' Sorry breeding. I'd love to find one of these guys and I would definitely re-consider a longer drive for one of these amazing jacks.

I was given a Jenny a short time ago. She delivered a baby jenny 2 days after I got her. The mother is mean. She absolutely will not be touched and kicks aggresively when she feels uncomfortable. The baby, however, is a doll! I kept mother and baby stalled up for a couple of weeks and was able to get my hands on baby right away. Mother allowed it but we had to open gate and stand outside of stall and pet on baby. I then moved both to a round pen. Baby, again, came to me everytime I went in to feed. Baby is now about 6 weeks old. She and mom are running with the other horses with no problem. Baby is running to greet us when we go out there and allows me to handle her without hesitation. Mom is still untouchable.
I don't plan to keep the mother. My concern is if the baby will learn these bad manners from mom and, if so, would I be wise to wean baby now?
I would welcome any advice as this is my first donkey. Horses I have experience with but not donkeys.

A friend is going to accompany me on a trip from the San Franisco Bay Area to look at a horse for sale (for me). However, SHE is looking for a trail/english mule. Probably no smaller than 15.1 or 15.2, and of riding age. She prefers a john, though she'd consider a molly. An Appy would be a bonus, but not required. I have two miniture donkeys approx. 300 lbs ea. Their pasture is very wet and soft with mud in many locations. I would like to move them to another pasture to keep the mud out of their hoofs. The new pasture is solid 12"+ grass. The pasture they are in now is about 1" tall. MY QUESTION IS, CAN THE GRASS CHANGE CAUSE A PROBLEM TO THE MINI DONKEYS? I know that spring grass would be bad or deadly, but I wasn't sure about winter. This is Oregon and we have very little sun. So far just rain.

I have two standard donkeys for sale. One is a gelding and the other is still a jack. Gelding is a blue-gray with white points, and the jack is a blue-roan with white points. They are about 1-1/2yrs old. Gelding stands about 45in at the withers and the jack 47in. They both are in ur back pocket kind of donkeys and will follow you all over. The gelding loves to be rubbed and scratched. The jack is a bit shyier than the gelding but will allow you to rub him alittle. They are both great donkeys but need to find new homes because I'm looking for something that I can use to go trail riding. Unfortunately they will not grow big enough for me to ride. Not sure if this is a Q/A message board, but I'll give it a shot. We have 3 donkeys, and we feed them hay once in the morning, once at night. They get 3 flakes between the three of them each time. But even 2 hours after feeding them, they bray and bray wanting more food. Please don't come down on us too hard if we're feeding them way to little....we are rookies at this large animal stuff. In the warmer months they are "mowing" all day in the pasture, so they seem fine then. How many flakes per donkey? Thanks.
