  I have a 300 acre farm that I am trying to down size ! I love them all to death but I can't give the attention needed.We have 30 purebred donkey's that are all 101 % broke ! They are all broke and riden by my son's, they are safe around children,easy to catch and shoe,easy to saddle and ride . They are both leg and rein broke, and are traffic safe ! We have 3 that are reguarily ridden for coon hunting and stand like a board when shot off of, they do not spook at the sound of gun or any loud noises ! Most of our donkey's have been shown in our local fairs and parades ! We are selling them very cheap , to GOOD HOMES ONLY ! $400-1200 a piece ! We are also selling my pride and joy, my 45 horses ! From Percheron's to ponies ! We have to many to give info on ! All are atleast green broke. Some are barrel racers, race tracers , brood mares , studs, stunt horses ,and studs ! All are easy to shoe and catch , everything is kept up to date on shots !

  We have a cute-as-pie little jennet who will be a year old next month. She is approximately 36" at the withers, is dark brown (shedding coffee w/ cream color baby winter coat now)and white on her muzzle and inside her ears. Having never had experience with breeding donkeys would appreciate any help that you might be able to give in learning,
  1)How do I know when she comes into estrus?
  
  2)How old does she have to be before she is bred?
  
  3)Would breeding her to a mini horse be preferable to a small pony? Would like to use a smaller stallion (less than 35") to facilitate an easier delivery and produce a very small offspring.
  
  4) Is there anyone in the Mid-Missouri area who has a suitable stallion who would be willing to give it a try?

  I have read quite a bit of information of Standard size Donkeys being used as protection for sheep. I was wondering if anyone could tell me of any bad habbits they have.   Hello,
  
  My wife and recently bought a 15 month old standard sized brown Western Jack burro. He is an uncut male and is somewhat agressive. I have tried to get a local vet to castrate him but he says he doesn't do it in hot weather. What can we do? Can anyone do it now safely,(June 27th)? I hate to wait till October to have this done. He is VERY territorial and has almost killed our chickens and cats that venture into his area. We also have a very large pet Nubian goat that is scared to death of him. This donkey bosses and rares up at me and my wife. It's hard to even get in there with him. I was hoping castration will squelch some of that desire to boss and defend territory.
  
  Another big problem we are having is the fact that the donkey will NOT stop biting and nipping at us when we get near him. He was hand fed by the previous owners and now all he does is lip, nip and bite everything that comes near him. I try to have a stick nearby and "pop" the side of his snout when he does it, but he doesn't take it too seriously,(even when I pop him fairly hard), He keeps coming back and nips some more. We are at our wits end. What can be done to make him stop this behavior? We like him and want to keep him, but I doubt we can if he stays like this from now on.
  
  Any suggestions,help or advice would be apreciated. Dave and Leslie Baker

  Hi I am new to this board but have a question maybe someone can help with. I have a mammoth donkey which I have only had for a few months. His feet are in awful shape but he will not allow me or the farrier to handle them we managed to get his front feet done but his hind are awful-does anybody have any tips? I have no history on this donkey as he was saved from slaughter. He is an absolute sweetheart-just need to trim thoose darn feet! Thanks for any input.

  We have 4 miniature horses and 9 standard horses. We also have two pygmy Tennessee fainting goats. At night, we have heard sounds like that of a mountain lion. My question is, do donkeys really protect other animals? If so, how do they do it? Also, does this apply only to standard size donkeys or does this include miniature donkeys? Any suggestions?

Open shows, endurance rides, back country horseman rides, elk and deer hunting, team penning and sorting, you name it, We have a molly and an appy mare in one field and a yearling stud colt all by himself in the other so we'd like to find a John to go out in the feild with the kid. Color and good looks are preffered, but personality, reliability, and lack of serious vices is far more important. Needs to be big enough to pack a 6 ft tall, 200 lb rider withtack,rifle, packs and a nights feed. And sane enough to go out in public. Some thing around 14.3 and stocky upto 16 hands and lank. We're offering an excellent home with over 30 years of eqine experience. A warm barn in the winter, shade trees in the summer, automatic waterers in each field and stall, no boxes, our stalls allow each animal to touch and see the horse next to them.
