Kaci, I too experienced the SAME Exact problem you are now facing. I still have the baby (now 3 yrs old) but sold mamma in a hurry. Donkey mares or jennys are know to be super protective of thier offspring. But almost always, the babys stay gentle. If she(baby) is comming up to you that is a plus in itself. My baby did too and we could open the gate, snatch her out and play with her, then quickly put her back in with momma. If you want to wean early as I did (it is NOT reccomended) is wait until at least 3 mos. feed a small amount of omolene 300 as grain, but only a SMALL amount plus grass hay and vitamins. Donkeys really get depressed when weaned and sometimes won't eat. DO NOT put baby back with momma after 48hrs of seperation due to milk fever. If you have any more questions I'll be happy to answer them. Hope this helps.
Anna

No I do not suggest weaning at such an early age. If she is friendly, just keep playing with her, that will not change towards you, apparently the jenny was mistreated at one time or another and that is why she is the way she is.
