Subject: Mini Donks Not Guards!


Miniature donkeys are not used for guarding; they are often done in by predators. Jacks also aren't used, as they have one thing on their mind! Standard jennies are the choice for guarding. They don't do well as guards if they have a foal; they may attack the animals they're supposed to guard just to protect their baby. The guards should be left with the stock 24/7 to do their job. If they are removed for other disciplines, the animals they're supposed to protect could be in danger.

Donks raised for guarding are placed with stock (cattle, poultry, sheep, goats, etc.) when they're weaned - about 6 months old - and grow up with the stock.
