Wow...that post was pretty harsh.

I don't think its fair to label us impatient or call us names; it's just hard for a group of over 20 riders
to stop for every mechanical issue. People have other plans or can't spend 1/2 a day out on the bike.

We all stopped and waited for the first flat. I know myself and others had no idea that Dan had broken a
pedal until we got to the ball fields. At that point, since at least six people had stopped and waited with Dan,
we made the decision to continue on with the ride. It wasn't because we were being impatient or inconsiderate,
but there is nothing any of us could have done to remedy his situation.

We were in no hurry today. A normal 2:45 ride took us four hours. We stopped for three other flats along the way.

I propose that we practice the buddy rule on large group rides when a rider has a mechanical issue. If someone has a problem, then at least one person should always stop and help that rider. If more want to stop that is fine, but I don't think we should expect everyone else to stop. I see no benefit of stopping a large group ride for every mechanical. In fact, it seems to only serve to break up the group as evidenced by today's ride and this past Sunday's.

I think it would be inconsiderate of myself to ask 20 other cyclists to stop and wait for me to change a flat. If at least one person stops and helps then I think all is right in the world. I would like to hear the opinions of others on this.

Group B rides remain an all group stop for mechanical issues.

And by the way, the turnout for the Firecracker 50 was terrific. What a nice day to ride.
