Rishis were said to be divine seerers born with the knowledge of Brahman to teach mankind the Veda. They were considered divine beings to begin with.

Usually Savikalpa Samadhi happens before one begins looking for a Guru-it is a catalyst.

Initiation is a mutual act of the Guru and disciple consenting to accept each other, and promising to act to their best ability in the roles they have accepted. There are different Gurus for different persons-high and low are concepts of the mind in this regard and only increase ones grip on ego.
