A long time YSS member told me that the Indians are used to getting a mantra when they get initiation. In most traditions such as Ramakrishna Vedanta that is all the chela gets. Family gurus usually give mantras also. This is the norm for gurus such as Ammachi nowadays also. They give mantras.

My friend told me the chelas asked in unison for a mantra at a past kriya diksha. The monk said 'ok--here it is--om guru!' That was what he gave all.

Evidently it satisfied the majority. But many seem to want a personal mantra. This is understandable. Maybe YSS has a set of personal mantras they can choose from and the intuition guides the initiator to pick one. This is so in many traditions.

No-one answered how many initiations there are in YSS. Does anyone know?
