Thank you Wing for his initiative in sharing his experiences with us. I would like to echo his insights, and share my experiences also though I am a novice in trailwalker event.
Regarding wearing something warm. The experience up at Tai Mo Shan last Sunday was really breath taking. I anticipated its coldness but not to the extreme we had endured. I had put on one of those "cool/dry" apparel which they named it "Tin charm E" and on top of it my brand new gore-tex three layers overcoat. Guess what, with my body fat as insulant, a good BBQ meal for dinner before the hike, mid-night snack before climbing up Tai Mo Shan and in constant motion while pressing on, I was still shivering. I hope the devastating weather conditon on last Sunday was an exception and normally the condition was not that adverse during Nov morning.
I really appreciate Patrick's noble gesture in offering his down jacket while he is shivering himself with only T-shirt and shorts at the Tsuen Kam Au. (I assumed) I salute to many others,in particular Steve, German and Esther for their perseverance and tolerance to coldness/wettness. I think I have phobia about coldness already. I feel dizzy and have running nose while I am recollecting this experience of mine.
If we do not want to experience this harsh encounter once more, let's keep up with Matthew's suggested itineray and avoid hiking up Tai Mo Shan after midnight for the third attempt. I hope this can be our incentive to keep our pace. I don't think I am ready for that harsh challenge so soon.........
Another thing I want to share is our meal. I think I am not used to eating non heated canned food or consuming solid substances after mid-night. I only had one slide of bread with one slide of luncheon meat and a biteful of ham, plus quarter handful of cold sweet corn at Lead Mine pass. The jolly merry mood at Lead Mine Pass made me forget about my weak stomach and I felt uncomfort with my stomach and burp a lot for that section after our mid-night snack. Pardon me if my burping was too loud to your ears and too frequent making a nuisance, in particular to Angela and Matthew who walked right behind me.
By this experience of mine, I intend to stick to my "chocolate bar", "garnola bar" and "apple" which are light to carry but heavy as power food for replenishing my tired body. At least, they are habits I am used to and adapted to. Having said that, I welcome advices from the experts. Well, that explain why I am being labelled as "energizer" by the other Yankees. (Jokes shared among those who attended the briefing on 22nd Oct)
Personally, I had great fun and a good time on my last Sat/Sun training. I really appreciate those who took the lead and set such a comfortable and moderate pace. I enjoyed our creativity in making four letters verses at the most boring and tiring Tai Lam section. Thank you for going crazy and playing silly with me, talking nonsense, compiling conventional four letters verses and being goofy. It surely awaken my sleepy head and wrapped up my training with a good laugh and memory.
See you folks tomorrow at Hammer Hill, if not, till then.
