Subject: Disturbing GL bits & rumors... (or how to kill a soap)

First of all, hello everybody, and a big thanks to my sponsors for the ALS Walk! Thanks to you, I raised a total of $740! Mom thanks you all, too.

Now, for the latest on the GL front... if any of you ever loved the show, hold on to your tummies...

There's a rumor afoot on datalounge, posted by someone who was proven reliable in the past, that the scruffy DA, Jeffrey O'Neill (Bradley Cole, who played stiff Prince Richard just last year, until writer Millee Taggert killed him very dead and passed out his organs) is going to be made the son of ED BAUER.

Brad Cole has some very fanatical fans... extremely scary types. How scary? They once managed to get a PSA pulled on organ donation, because they didn't like BC's character being killed off! Luckily, a logical person spied them bragging about it on their board, and after being deluged by emails & letters from more reasonable fans (myself included), cooler heads prevailed and the PSA aired (I think I even talked about it here).

After Richard was killed off, even more dead than the usual soap opera dead, the more maniacal fans kept posting on various boards that they wanted Richard to return & beating anyone down who said it made no sense. There were some ugly posting wars at SoapCity (considered GL's official board, so they were going to be damned sure they were heard there), then they mysteriously disappeared & relative peace came over SoapCityLand.

Little did we average viewers know they were on a secret mission, and had no time to post. That's because they were busy spending EVERY SPARE MOMENT writing endless letters to the studio (under endless names), sending the new EP (JC) gifts, and stuffing mag polls ("Which character would you most like to see return to GL?" Richard Winslow 90%! WHAT?).

According to those in the know, JC/EW had been out of touch with the soap world for ages, and not at all internet savvy. They fully believed what they were hearing from the nutcases, and the next thing we knew, there were rumors that Brad Cole was returning. Of course, most of us viewers thought it was ridiculous. Ha ha.. the joke was on us! But it's okay, because JC told us to "trust" him. They've done their research, he said, and KNOW BC is "popular". Recently, HW Ellen Weston had the nerve to tell us to keep our eyes on Jeffrey - he's "mysterious". She also claimed she'd like to see GL get a 5.0 rating by Christmas (la la la la la!).

Naturally, BC's return, which was supposed to cause the ratings to soar, did NOTHING to them... if anything, they've taken a dive BECAUSE of him. A lot of fans are ticked, because fan-faves MG (Holly) and LK (Blake) were put on recurring status, so that their salaries could be handed over to Mr. Cole, who said the offer made to him was so generous, it made it much easier to return. (No love had apparently been lost when he left before. He reportedly made an outrageous demand & GL apparently didn't negotiate, effectively saying, "See ya!").

And what of the so-called "charming" Jeffrey O'Neill? BC used his normal speaking voice, instead of the Brit accent he used as Richard. Most fans found it grating, irritating, or just laughable. It's nasal and flat, with odd pronunciations. The character immediately proved himself to be a class-A ASS, a woman-hating mysogonist who seriously thinks women have certain roles and shouldn't be bosses. He constantly puts down the parenting skills of Cassie, his LANDLORD, while praising the parenting skills of BETH, the mother of Lizzie, the teenaged PSYCHOPATH, who recently tried to kill a PREGNANT WOMAN (Olivia). (Let's not forget Beth was also Lorelei when she lost her memory, and slept her way across Texas).

Though he constantly insults Cassie, he DID try to hit on Reva, Cassie's sister. That didn't work, but Reva does like him. Then, at an OFFICIAL interview with Beth about her daughter's shenanigans, he grabbed her and kissed her. He had known her oh, about a day. Later that week, he took her on their first date, to a Japanese restaurant, where he and Beth screwed right in their so-called "private" room (you could see right through the rice-paper screen... very suggestive scenes)... UGH! I can never look at sushi the same again! Since then, he also boinked Beth on a public dock, and spoilers say they'll do it yet again in another "unusual" place. Joy!

When Jeffrey isn't busy having sex in public places, he's breaking laws by bugging the office of a private-eye firm called "Harley's Angel's" (don't ask), representing foster parents at a custody hearing (since when does a DA do that?) just to oppose his former employee, Mel (who now not only is a doctor AND an insta-lawyer, but is also one of Harley's Angels & is expecting a baby). It wasn't below Jeffrey to use Mel's pregnancy in court, in a most underhanded way. But later, he saved the day by giving Mel information she needed, because of course, in JC/EW's world, the men know everything and the women know nothing.

Jeffrey is shown spying and snooping, doing underhanded things, but he's portrayed as a big HERO, so everything's okay. Yeah, right.

His backstory has been changed numerous times. Apparently, TPTB have caught on that he's not as popular as they hoped. It was rumored that Barbara Bloom, head of CBS Daytime, tried to have them cut BC loose... but JC/EW are PGP employees who just LOVE BC. In fact, last weekend, they were front and center at both of his cabarets, applauding wildly and heaping a great deal of praise on their beloved one. BC himself said he has a new, big story coming up (to which some wondered, when HASN'T he had a "big story"? He's got a finger in EVERY story on GL as it is!).

Just before last weekend's GL Gathering (which I did not attend this year), the new rumor came out. It seems brothers Josh & Billy, along with Buzz and Ed, visit a certain woman's grave every year (this part was shown Friday). The woman died in 1977. The RUMOR part says that either Josh or Billy hit her with a car while driving. The woman was named Maryann Caruthers and was pregnant. Apparently, they took her to Ed, who was drunk & botched the delivery and the woman died. Buzz also has something to do with the story, but I don't know what. Anyway, it will turn out that Ed had had an affair with the woman, and the baby was his. That baby was supposedly JEFFREY O'NEILL.

Hello, has anyone seen Bradley Cole? He's 44 or 45 years old, but looks like he could be older... certainly not 26 years old! And there's NO WAY Josh Lewis could be that much older than Jeffrey!

Okay, so let's say the baby WASN'T Jeffrey... who is it & why should we care? Because HISTORY WAS SEVERLY CHANGED to have Josh, Billy, AND Buzz in Springfield in 1977. They simply weren't around then. Josh and Billy would have been living in Oklahoma, and Buzz, after VietNam, was wandering around the country as his family thought he was DEAD. He couldn't have been in SF without them knowing.

There's always a chance they'll make BUZZ the father, but that's an appalling thought, too... as well as the rumor that he'll just be yet another Spaulding.

The whole thing is being done in order to firmly anchor Jeffrey O'Neill to a major SF family, in hopes of keeping him around. Sadly, this kind of thing was JUST DONE with Gus, who ended up being a long-lost Spaulding. (JC/EW seem to be trying to repeat the success of Gus with Jeffrey, even giving him some of the same habits... but they're so much more offensive with Jeff!).

The whole thing is causing quite an uproar on GL boards, especially amongst general fans who have finally had ENOUGH! They've had enough of cult-like fanbases getting their way (the Mannyacs got what they wanted, too), tired of not being heard, tired of history being changed right and left (Ben as killer, etc). Even usually mild-mannered fans have taken pen to paper, or along with THOUSANDS of others, called the studio last week to protest... even though the worst part still remains a rumor. They don't want ANY of it to come true!

Reports from callers claim that the gal answering told them they weren't alone, they'd received a ton of calls about the same thing. ONe told a caller she didn't have to worry, when she said she didn't want Jeffrey to become a Bauer. I wonder if some of the story was changed, because on the first day of the barrage of calls, according to yet another post at datalounge, an emergency 4-hour meeting was held at the studio. Of course, knowing THIS set of idiot PTB, that's probably when they decided to just make him Buzz's son or something... sigh.

Based on what aired Fri, it's probably too late to get much of the story changed.

The scary thing is that BC's fans aren't disputing any of it - in fact, they've been VERY quiet. And now we know that when BC's fans are quiet, something bad is happening...
