This isnt much of a response to your post, but it made me think of other examples of "real life mimesis." While I was home over break my mom told me that a woman in her office confessed that she was having an affair. Now, this employee had gone so far as bring her lover into the family business, having snogging sessions in the parking lot and so forth. Naturally, all of the other women in the office were a bit upset about the whole affair (no pun intended) and vented their frustrated and hurt feelings to their husbands {its a small family business, so everyone is into everyone else's life}. The husbands, not understanding why their wives were so flustered, EACH ASKED THEIR WIVES if they were upset because the adulterous coworker "had something on them" that they didn't want to come out. CONTAGION!!!!

sorry, it was exciting to see it happen to people I know. Not that I was excited about the affair, but you know what I mean.
