As a one time resident of Europe, I have been wishing the U.S. would build up passenger rail travel for years. The only way to get from Houston to New Orleans via train is through Chicago! Crazy. The rails are there I can assure you, but they're only used for freight. Of course, the majority of our country is not set up like Europe, where each town or village has a Main St. with all the necessary shops (still Mom and Pop shops for the most part) and a train station. We don't even have bus service where I live since I'm not in a city. Without a car I could go nowhere, or pass out or die trying as I walked 2 miles in 100 degree heat down a rural highway to the nearest grocery store. The mistake was made LONG ago and I'm not sure it's rectifiable. Such a shame.

Lynx, I don't know how I visualize the world five years from now. I think I'm scared to because I could be a Grandmother by then. ZOINKS!
