Maybe "willing" isn't the right word, but what I meant was that they aren't normally willing to make the effort to change while in that state. The medication can get them to the point where they may then become willing, as you did, to make the effort, but with our generally lazy society, most people are going to opt for the easier route of continuing on the medication.
