What I really don't understand is why it's so acceptable to call her "bitch" or "Bill's wife," especially when not acknowledging her in her own right. Maybe my memory is hazy, but while George W. was acknowledged as the former President's son, it was secondary; he was a candidate first and recognized as offspring second. Amazingly (!) there is no correlating derogatory male term to "bitch."

This isn't really directed at you, EJ; this is a much wider issue. I mean, this was disgusting. I understand she was likely encouraged to phrase it as she did, but a woman! Of course it had more power coming from a woman and it might have been derided from a man, but where was her pride in her gender? When did a presidential nomination race overcome the struggle for equality? I hope that woman got the cold shoulder from her family and friends who understand a four-year term means less than the ongoing challenge for equality. Finally, McCain offers a lot, but he missed a great opportunity to take a stand with even a mild reproof saying that words like bitch don't have a place in the race.

Imagine if she'd said, "How do we beat the nigger?"
