For people who see it as an adventure/fantasy series to be taken at face value, Dumbledore's homosexuality is not relevant. But Rowling has given a gift to those who want to see it in a more literary and analytical way, and for those people it is surely relevant.

This whole argument reminds me of a Sopranos episode in which Meadow and Carmela are discussing Melville's final novel, Billy Budd. When Meadow starts talking about the homosexual subtext, Carmela comes completely unglued, insisting that it's just a story of a boy who goes to sea.

Relevance is in the eye of the beholder. ;-)
