Sorry to hear you had a crappy experience, lynx. When my dad was in the hospital prior to his death, he received excellent care from his doctors and nurses. The only negative experience was having to wait 4 hours to get discharged so we could get him home.

My cousin was just recently in the same hospital having SIX bypasses (I didn't know one could have that many at one time. sheesh) and they also had a positive experience.

I've been in the hospital several times for various surgeries here and there and just this summer had to be taken to the emergency room, where I stayed the night until I could be admitted. I must say, although I never had a bad hospital experience except for being awaken every hour or two for a vitals check, it was by far the easiest hospital experience I've had. I even wrote a letter to commend the emergency staff for being so fabulous. Maybe you should try being hospitalized in Texas or Louisiana next time :)

Luckily we have great insurance and our part was minimal, but my heart goes out to those with little or no insurance. It's terribly expensive.
