Sorry to overwhelm you with questions, but those are only a portion of the things we look at. You don't need to answer them all anyway - protocol seems to be the answer as to why you had an EKG done.

As you included, chest x-ray, complete blood count & metabolic panel (blood test), culture and sensitivity (of a sputum sample) are also other things we might look at. If we were to leave one of those tests out we actually might miss something, and that's what I meant about doing things on the patient's terms. If we skip vital tests the doctor can't make accurate diagnoses. If we skip giving certain meds then the treatment might not be as effective.

Certain meds like sleeping pills and tylenol don't have to be given, and I agree with that. They are prescribed to help your comfort level. I think Tylenol has terrible side effects on the liver, but studies have shown that untreated pain can damage nerves in the brain that create patterns similar or the same (I can't remember the exact phrase) as alzheimers. I don't take tylenol or ibuprofen or any pain medication on a regular basis, but if the pain is annoying enough I will stop it by using one of those drugs. Again, risk vs. gain. I never want to have alzheimers or anything similar to it. I'll risk the liver damage in favor of not having brain damage, but that's my personal choice, and nobody has to agree with me :)

The CK test to check for MI is done every 8 hours, but it can be done every 4-6 hours, too. The initial results are important, but the subsequent results are important too so might be why they took more blood, or maybe they gave you something and wanted to see how you're responding to treatment. It's really hard to say without being there.

Without seeing your EKG it's also hard to comment, but for the doc to be concerned and send you to a cardiologist, it probably was significant. I agree, Dr. Jackass sounds like a jackass, and you were totally within your right to refuse treatment from him. I am glad you'll be going to a cardiologist you find more favorable.

I'd also be curious to hear what you use as cures for thrush and IBS. I have a friend that seems to have IBS - I think it has to do more with what she eats, but if there's a natural cure I definitely think it's worthy of being passed along :)
