Subject: increase calories= increase metabolism

Gals,

I have a question: I have wittelled down my calorie consumption from 5400 (while inpatient 5yrs. ago) to 1200 (as soon as I left) and now 850-1000* calories a day for about 3 years now. I want to increase what I am eating for two reasons:

1) I weighed about 5lbs less and was getting my period when I was eating
1200 calories, more than I'm eating now, but that was 4 years ago...
(Also, I have osteoporosis and haven't had my period in about 4 years.)

2) My metabolism is so slow at this point, and I am not losing weight when I
eat a little less, just holding on to it or maybe gaining...

So my question is: If I were to increase my calories would I be able to increase my metabolism to somewhat a normal range? Charts say that I should be able to eat something like 1600. That number might be if I were on bed rest, I'm not sure (chocolate?). I am not on bed rest. : ) I'm 5'4 and I do pilates everyday for about 20-25 minutes.

So, gals what do you think? Have any of you increased what you were eating and lost weight? Has your metabolism picked up?

Thank you!
lara
