加拿大紐芬蘭省高等法院裁定「同性戀結婚合法」；紐芬蘭是加拿大第八個核可同性戀結婚的省份。紐芬蘭法院是在一對女同性戀者提出「禁止同性戀結婚是歧視」的告訴之後，裁定同性戀結婚合法；當地政府已經表示，他們不會反對法院的裁定。加拿大有十個省份、三個地方，目前已經有安大略英屬哥倫比亞魁北克曼尼托巴新斯科西亞薩克其萬六個省份及育空地方的法院裁定「同性戀結婚合法」。加拿大最高法院在一個多星期前裁定「聯邦政府可以修改婚姻定義，其中包括可將同性戀結婚納入婚姻法中」，加拿大政府預計明年初在下議院提出這項法案。
