they don't take up space and you don't have to worry about wear and tear, dusting or paper deterioration over time. Since I reside in a high humidity climate, paper discoloration, especially foxing, is a big concern. Further, you don't have to pay exorbitant shipping charges as you would with a hardcopy.

From the publisher's point of view, they cost very little to produce so they can break even faster. They don't have to deal with the hassle of shipping and packaging or excess inventory. I see it as a win-win situation.
