Thanks for the link- I hadn't seen that discussion.

The 4/0 polyester is braided and very strong. I just tried to break a piece and could not when pulling on the ends as when tying a knot.

I'm wondering if the square knot is the best choice. It doesn't really pull the loop tight generally, which for normal surgical work is fine as you want the knot to lock in place and not tighten the loop and pull(cut) through the tissue.

I'm also thinking of a scheme to keep the thread tight as the tissue shrinks.
