Subject: Public Invited to Sendoff Author: Anonymous [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: Thursday, August 12, 11:06am Friends and fans of Miss South Carolina Teen Caroline Blanton are invited to help give her a memorable sendoff to the national pageant Saturday from 7:30 p.m.-10 p.m. at the Sidewheeler Restaurant. Blanton, who beat out 42 other contestants for the state crown in July in Spartanburg, will leave next week for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competition in Orlando, Fla. During Saturday’s event Blanton will sing several songs including “Once Upon a Star,” which she will perform during the talent segment of the national competition. The steps Blanton took on the way to winning the state crown will be highlighted in a showcase video that will feature her singing at church when she was a small child and performing in “Annie.” Blanton will also sing a couple of songs with family members. Several of the people who have played key roles in Blanton’s success have been invited to speak including her voice coach Kathleen Seymour, instructors from the Sally Woody School of Dance, Conway High School principal Porter Kennington, CHS girls’ soccer coach Tony Bombyea, executive directors from the Miss Myrtle Beach Teen Pageant and others. Blanton will also be recognized by the city of Conway and the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce. Two of her friends and fellow classmates, Dalton Watts and Breanna Barfield, who recently tried out for American Idol will also entertain. The new Miss America Teen will be crowned Aug. 28, and Blanton hopes to become the second South Carolinian to win the title in three years. Taylor Fitch of Anderson won the competition in 2009. The state queen is a daughter of Genie and Chris Blanton of Conway. She competed as Miss Myrtle Beach Teen in the state pageant, and was one of the preliminary award winners in evening gown.
