Chocolate,
Using multiple online calculators, I calculated my BMR to be around 1300-1350 calories. I have been eating under that for as long as I can remember. Is this why I am NOT losing weight, why I've GAINED weight? ( Will you take a look at the article I posted, please?)
The last time I remember eating more than my BMR was when I was hospitalized 7 or 8 years ago. For the past 3 or 4 months I have been zig-zagging my cals daily (1050 one day, 1350 the next, weekly average of 1200). This is something I started doing after I slowly raised my calories from 1000 to a steady 1350. At first by raising my cals I gained about 5 lbs. and then maintained; by zigzagging I lost about 4 and then gained 7! I thought that fluctuating my calories daily, would keep my metabolism revved up and out of "starvation mode," which I am all to familiar with. I started the zig-zag plan, after researching it on the web. But before implementing it, I slowly increased my daily caloric intake from 1000. I'm confused! Eating more was a big step for me, I regained menses naturally after its absense for years of eating 1000 calories after coming out of the hospital (I was maintaing a weight within 3 lbs).
I really didn't "need" to gain this weight. These extra lbs are really affecting me: I feel isolated and alone, I don't want anyone to see me, I feel crippled. I don't want to do anything drastic, but I feel desperate! I just want to understand my body! I'd be happy losing the 7 or 8 I gained. I am concerned about this weight gain because the gain seems to have happened without reason. What I assume is that my low "zigs" of 1050 have once again brought my metabolism to a crawl, setting myself up to gain on my up days.
Any insight?
I am thinking of raising my calories to a stable 1350 again, but I just can't handel gaining more weight! I am considering eating a lot less, but I don't think that is the answer. What do you think of the women in the case study? I feel my BMR has plummeted in a similar manner (from working out, not eating enough, that is eating below my BMR), what do you think?
Thanks! I really appreciate any help you can give me.
