 佛法解釋人為何會“成為現在這般”是有一段很完整的邏輯，我們不一定認同它，但相信裡頭會有幾成實相。
例如那個男人和那個女人為何會落到如斯田地（做低下工作又惡待他人，或要背鄉別井遭人歧視），主要是因為他／她們過往生所作過的業的結果。那不是“懲罰”，就例如飲了水就要上廁所一樣。當然，業有善惡和中性三種之分，由意識中的硬碟一一紀錄清楚，絕不含糊。
在隨喜的小故事裡，女人（如果）前生作過惡業，結果是今生要作海外傭工受人剝削歧視，但似乎她過去也結過不少好因緣，以至她此間可在清靜地工作、又有機會對人和善，甚至與人行善的方便，那麼，別說她的來生必得提升，今生也會過得好一點。至於那個男人，他的不自覺卻令他繼續作惡業、累積惡因（當然只是指此事而言，或許他對別的人很好，而女人對別的人很壞），以至來生看來也不會怎樣提升了。
不過，值得想一想的一點是，作為“袖手旁觀”的我們，會因為不反對種族歧視，或不支持工人福利，或輕視微小的人，甚至助紂為虐而在hard disk裡加多幾分惡業嗎﹖
