Subject: I need help

I'm horrible with names, I admit it. I just got the cutest puppy in the world and he's still nameless after two days. If you want to take a crack at naming him you can see his picture on my blog here. http://maliaspencer.blogspot.com/2006/11/its-boy.html

If you come up with the winning name I'll send you a box of chocolate covered macadamia nuts, regular or dark, your choice. Or a Starbucks card if you prefer.

You can send me an e-mail by clicking on my name next to this post or leaving a comment on my blog.

Thanks and I hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Malia

[> Aww! He's SO CUTE, Malia! I'm not good with picking names, though, unfortunately. But, he is a cutie, though!! -- Brooke, 17:58:33 11/10/06 Fri [1]

[> Malia, what a beautiful dog!! As for name suggestions, how about Kale or Bane (both of Hawaiian origin). I'm sure you'll choose a good name :-) Enjoy your new puppy! -- Robyne, 20:22:27 11/10/06 Fri [1]

[> One of my student got a new puppy, too. She couldn't come up with the name for her... everyone saying "I don't know".... so my colleague came up with an idea like this "DoeKnow". Funny name! :) I suppose you could come up with a Hawaiian name that describe about your puppy. I'm sure you'll find right one. :) -- Busta, 23:45:56 11/10/06 Fri [1]

[> He's SO cute, Malia! Is he going to be big or is he a small breed? I can't tell from the pic, and that helps with the naming process a little. How about "Uke" (for ukulele)? That's Hawaiian and would sure be original! He could be called Ukie as a nickname. Here's a Wiki page about ukuleles--I learned more about ukuleles today than I've ever known! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukulele Good luck with the naming--I'm sure the perfect name will emerge soon! :-) -- Lynn, 08:20:34 11/11/06 Sat [1]

[> Aww, cute dog! I'm terrible with names but like some of the suggestions already given. -- Janelle, 17:47:35 11/11/06 Sat [1]

[> [> That's a first. We have to type a confirmation code to post our message now? I guess that'll cut down on spammers. -- Janelle, 17:48:42 11/11/06 Sat [1]

[> [> [> The code thing surprised me too, Janelle. I thought I was on a different messageboard! I think it's been in place for about a month. As a matter of fact, DaxDad mentioned it to me. He said he'd posted a heartfelt thanks to everyone for their birthday messages, then lost it because he didn't do the confirmation code as required. I've suggested that he post again, but he says he doesn't want to "drag up" his birthday again! :-P -- Lynn, 08:00:03 11/12/06 Sun [1]

[> [> [> [> [> Yay! It worked! We don't have that many spammers, so it shouldn't be necessary to have a confirmation code. As a matter of fact, I'm doing my "annual review" of this board and trying to figure out whether to keep it going after the end of this year. Everyone is so busy, and although it doesn't take much of my time to keep it online, is it really active enough to warrant it. I hope you'll all think about this, and be honest in your appraisal about whether it should remain. We could all exchange email addresses to stay in touch. I'll post something in a few weeks exploring the options. -- Lynn, 08:16:36 11/12/06 Sun [1]

[> I loved all the name suggestions. Thanks everybody. Robyne one of my writing mentors, Colleen Coble, has a very hunky character named Bane in her Aloha Reef series set in Hawai'i. Definitely worth a read. Lynn, I love Ukie but our neighbors have a dog named Yuki. Busta, the equivalent for me would be like calling the puppy da kine. I am happy to say he finally has a name. I was sitting playing with him earlier and the name Angelo came to me. I looked it up and it means Messenger of God. It just seems to fit as I've been wanting and praying for a puppy for a long time. The timing was finally right. Angelo is a black lab/golden retriever mix so he's going to be a big boy. Thanks for helping me name my baby! -- Malia, 23:47:49 11/11/06 Sat [1]

[> [> Angelo is a GREAT name, Malia. Especially for a lab/retriever mix. He's gonna be such a sweetheart! Perfect name! I love it! :-) -- Lynn, 08:02:59 11/12/06 Sun [1]
