My grandmother was born and raised in Tuckahoe. Her father was one of the quarry workers. During the summer, she would bring him his lunch every day. She told me of having to climb down to the working level on flimsy wooden ladders. She also spoke of a lot of snakes being around the excavation. This was about 1908 or so. No concern back then of personal safety nor liability issues. When the quarry at Marbledale & Jackson was drained, there were a couple of real old cars down there. I saw them in person. One was on a ledge, on it's nose with the tail end straight up.
