Subject: School Closings - Fire Whistles ?

I was listening to WHUD Radio today and they announced that Eastchester schools were closed because of the snow storm. I remember back in the '50s & '60s we found out about closings by listening for the fire whistles to blow the signal for our specific schools. I wonder if they still do that today. Anyone know?
