Hi Dawn, I know you were asking for Kellie's advice but I'd like to share my advice with you, if you don't mind.
My parents divorced when I was about 3. My mom couldn't stand my dad and as a result did what she could to keep my sisters and I away from him. He was far from a model dad and didn't seem to put much effort into forming a relationship with us once he lost custody. We saw him a couple of times a month, maybe. We never spoke on the phone.
I feel like both of my parents are at fault for the type of relationship I now have with my dad. I see him about once every 2-3 years and speak to him on the phone maybe once a year--and it is very awkard when I do to talk to him.
I know it's hard but please do what you can to keep a relationship between your kids and their dad. They will appreciate it later. Please think about the children's needs before your own. They need their father! (Please know I have the best of intentions telling you this....I'm not trying to be harsh.)
I can tell you that now as an adult (I'm 30, happily married with one child), I would have respected my mom a lot more had I seen her trying to keep a relationship between me and my dad.
