The characters aren't mine...
Mistakes are..

Mac's apartment
Two days later

Mac was bored. Very bored. After her second session with her psychiatrist the previous day, she had actually slept better. She couldn't say exactly what had changed, but at the session she had been furious, then she had wept like a baby afterward. She had to admit that opening up actually did make her feel better, not that she'd ever admit it.

A knock sounded on the door and she jumped to her feet, hoping that it was Harm.

“Admiral,” Mac stepped aside. “Come in.”

“I hope I'm not disturbing you, Mac,” the Admiral said as he walked past her. “I just wanted to stop by and see how you are doing.”

“I'm fine,” Mac said. “Better than yesterday and the day before. I'm actually bored, sir. So bored.”

The Admiral chuckled. “You never have been a good patient, Mac. I remember having to order you to go home after you got shot that time you and the Commander played hookey. You cam to work the day after they released you from the hospital.”

Mac smiled. “Any chance you'll allow me back in the next day or two?”

“Sorry Mac, you'll just have to follow Doctor's orders,” the Admiral said and sobered up. “We almost lost you, Colonel. You were damn heroic over there, Marine.”

“I don't know about that, sir. I took a lot of lives. This war just seem so meaningless. All that bloodshed, and it doesn't look like this war will be a short one,” Mac said.

“That's why we need good men and women. I trust that you'll be a good patient and get healthy. We need you, Colonel,” the Admiral said.

“Yes, sir,” Mac said.

The Admiral nodded. “Well, I better go.”

“Sir,” Mac hesitated. “Thank you for keeping Harm from coming after me.”

“It wasn't easy, but I think the Commander understood that he would be looking for a needle in a haystack over there. Sometimes it's better to let the Marines do the job on land, right Colonel?”

“Yes, sir.” Mac agreed.

The Admiral looked thoughtful. “Colonel, I don't usually give advise when it comes to love, but I'll make an exception now. Open your eyes and see what the rest of us have seen for years.” The Admiral opened the door. “The Commander just need a little push. I figure a Marine is up for the challenge.”

With that the Admiral left Mac's apartment and a thoughtful Marine was left behind.

Harm's apartment

Harm was surprised by the knock on his door so late, he had just gone to bed and was about to call Mac to say good night. He got up and walked to the door.

“Mac?” he questioned as he opened the door and saw his guest.

“I was in the neighborhood,” Mac said with a shrug.

“It's past 2300 Mac, what's up,” Harm stepped aside and let her inside the apartment.

“Nothing, just... Nothing... I should go,” she said and turned to leave.

“Mac,” Harm grabbed her hand. “Since you're here, why don't you stay the night? I have a big bed. We can use it to sleep in, or we could snuggle and maybe you could tell me what made you come here late at night.”

Mac looked towards the bedroom. “I really don't want to bother you.”

“It's no bother,” he said with a smile as he dragged her towards the bedroom. “Let me find you a shirt.”

Mac watched as he looked through his closet and handed her a t-shirt. Mac took the shirt from him.

“I don't need it,” Mac said and threw the shirt away. She closed the distance between them and kissed him deeply.

Harm hesitated for second before he kissed her back.

Harm's apartment
The next morning

Harm had all sorts of negative thoughts when his alarm went off the next morning. Why couldn't it be the weekend? He snuggled closer to the woman in his arms and smiled. Last night had been amazing. Mac had really gone for him, and as surprised as he was he was quick to follow her move.
Their joining had been slow and tender, he was fully aware of how fragile Mac was right now, but she had given as good as she got. He had never felt this way before, and he wondered if it was too soon to ask her to move in and put a ring on her finger. Harm admitted it, he was in love.

He cursed inside as he untangled himself from Mac and got out of bed. He hurried to shower and dress, and wrote a note that he left on the bedside table. He couldn't believe he left her with a note after the amazing night they'd had, but he couldn't be late for court and she needed her sleep. He kissed her forehead softly and left her.

Three hours later Mac woke up and found the note:

Good morning. I didn't want to wake you. I have court. See you tonight? Harm

Mac got out of bed and found her mobile phone from her purse on the floor. She wanted to text Harm and ask him over for dinner that night. She had one new text message.

The note sucked. Thanks for last night. I want to see you before tonight. Lunch at Pablo's 1300? Love you. Harm.

Mac smiled and texted him back.

I thought the note was very Harm. See you at 1300.

Ten minutes later Mac was out the door and headed for her own apartment.
