Subject: Lost Chapter 2

The character's aren't mine..

Mistakes are...

I didn't want the focus in this story to be on Harm and him being the hero. The way I see it would be more realistic this way, since Harm would be lost alone in a country like Afghanistan looking for Mac. Besides, Harm will have a very important role later in the story. :)

Lost

Chapter 2

Mac had been a prisoner for 48 hours and 35 minutes when a Afghan man came to the cell. This was a bigger man than the last one and he was followed by two more men. They were all heavily armed.

They walked over to Lieutenant Mack and yelled for him to get up. Mac got to her feet. “What will you do to him?”

The man just pushed her away and ordered his men to take the Lieutenant outside. Mac felt a sting in her heart. Would they kill JJ?

Harry and Jack had gotten to their feet as well, and Mac turned to look at them. “If they try to move us, we have to try to escape.”

“They will kill us, Mac,” Jack said.

“I'd rather die escaping than have explosions strapped to my body and take the life of our fellow soldiers,” Mac said.

“I agree,” Harry said.

Mac sat down again. She tried to remember the last time she ate or drank something. She had to remember to ask if they could have some water in the cell.

An hour later sounds were heard, and into view came the same men as earlier and JJ on some home-made crutches. Mac was relieved.

“A Doctor was here to look at my leg. He bandaged the leg, and gave me painkillers,” JJ said as he was placed back in the cell.

“Can we have some water?” Mac asked the men.

“Give them some water,” the man who was in charge said as he locked the gate. “We better keep them alive.”

Mac focused on JJ. “It's good to see you.”

“It's good to be seen,” JJ said as he sat down. “Listen, this place is huge. It must be an old prison, because I saw several other men locked up when I was brought over ground. We're in a basement. There aren't that many guards, so if they take us upstairs we should try to escape.”

No one responded as the guards came back. They threw in some water bottles and left them alone.

Mac waited until she was sure they were alone. “We were talking about it before you came back.”

“I think we have a good chance of overthrowing the guards out there, and maybe steal one of their cars. It's the only way I'll be able to get away from here,” JJ said.

“I think we should try the next time someone comes,” Mac said with a decided look on her face.

JAG Headquarters

Harm was by his desk staring at a picture of Mac and him. The picture had been taken during Christmas celebrations in Harriet and Bud's apartment. It seemed like such a long time ago, but it had only been four weeks. He remembered the kiss under the mistletoe, and how she had smiled as they walked out of the apartment.

Harm put the picture away. Why wasn't he on a plane to Afghanistan? His first thought had been that he should be there to help look for her, but the more he thought about it he would be lost in the country. He was Navy and not trained for what could potentially happen over there. One of the first calls he had made was to Clayton Webb. He had been out of reach, so Harm just had to hope that he was in Afghanistan and that he knew about Mac's disappearance.

“Have you heard anything?”

Harm looked up and saw Sturgis in his doorway. “Nothing new.”

“You want to go there, don't you?” Sturgis said as he entered Harm's office.

Harm sat back in his chair. “If I thought I could do something to help. And besides, by the time I'd arrive there Mac might have been found and on her way home.”

“The men and women who are out there looking are the best of the best, Harm. They know the country and the Taliban and their hideouts the way we know the law. If anyone can find her, it's her fellow Marines,” Sturgis said.

“I guess this is a time where I have to trust the system huh?” Harm asked.

Sturgis nodded. “I guess.”

Somewhere in Afghanistan

Clayton Webb was smiling at the man in front of him. Clay was on a mission. He couldn't count how many missions he had been on in his life, but this one wasn't for the CIA. He was on a private mission.

“What do you want?”

“Four Marines were taken after a bombing three days ago. Where are they?” Clay fired his gun into the floor. “The next one can be a bullet through your head,” he said and smiled even more. “Or maybe one through your knee or elbow. There's so many ways of making you hurt without killing you.”

“The only thing I know is that they were taken by Abdul-Fattah and his men. I don't know where they are. Please don't hurt me, my wife is expecting a baby,” the man pleaded in bad English.

“If you want to see your wife and baby you tell me more than that. I happen to know that you led the men who abducted them. I have my sources,” Webb said calmly.

A new shot was fired, this time close to the man's foot. “Now?”

“They are in the Village of Kheva. Just outside there's a prison.”

“Keep this man here until I tell you otherwise,” Webb said as he walked towards the door.

JAG Headquarters

Harm was getting anxious. Maybe he'd been wrong about staying back at JAG. He decided to do some work, and started by checking his email. He had gotten a strange email from an unknown address.

'I'm on the case. Keep cool.'

That was all. No sender. Harm knew it had to be Clayton Webb.

Two minutes later Harm was in Admiral Chegwidden's office. “Sir, I believe the email was from Clayton Webb.”

The Admiral nodded. “It probably was. I pulled some strings to get in contact with Webb. If anyone can find her Harm, it's Webb. He knows things that we don't.”

“I wish I could be there, sir,” Harm said in defeat. “I feel like I should be there.”

“Harm, we can't go to Afghanistan and put a gun to someone else and make them give us information. Clayton Webb can.” The Admiral put a hand on Harm's shoulder. “We have to have faith in the men who's over there.”

“I do have faith in them, sir,” Harm said.
