Hi All,
Following my Module 4 assignment, my tutor suggested I share my comment regarding an additional criteria for an ideal phonics course: I would suggest each course should offer an understandable “user guide” for parents and other non-teachers who read and write with children...
I am aware some courses do offer easliy understood guidance which parents can refer to but others, while being very good. eg: letters and Sounds are written for professionals and would be quite difficult for an untrained person to understand.
I can tell from the forum the that great majority of people doing this course are teachers, or work with kids in or out of school.Although I have a TEFLA background, I've been doing this course simply as a mum who wants to know how to help her son (no special needs or dyslexia)with reading and writing.
Do teachers want parents to understand phonics? Are most parents interested? I would like to know about other peoples' experiences.
