I woke the next morning to a pair of blue eyes. �Morning baby,� he said sweetly, tucking my hair behind my ear.

I stretched and then returned the greeting, smiling as I did so. I loved waking up next to him� I always had, but it was different now. The thought crossed my mind that maybe I should be embarrassed, as he�d obviously been lying there watching me. I wasn�t. It was kind of comforting, actually, knowing he�d been there. It made me feel safe � and loved � something Keith�s presence had always accomplished.

I reached my hand up and rubbed its palm gently across his cheek. When it reached the corner of his mouth, he turned his head and gently kissed my palm, closing his eyes as he did so. He then moved his mouth to mine, leaning his body over mine and kissing me.

�What do you have to do today?� He mumbled, pulling back to look at me.

�Nothing,� I answered.

�Good,� he replied huskily, and returned to kissing me.

At 4pm � six hours later � we were still in bed, cuddled together and wrapped in each others arms. Keith�s stomach grumbled and we both laughed. �I�m hungry too,� I told him, grinning.

�First things first,� he said, shifting so that we could get up, �we need showers.� By showers, he meant shower, which was made clear when he pulled me up out of bed and into the bathroom with him.

The shower was a first� and I must say, quite enjoyable.

We spent the evening at a restaurant � a steakhouse, because Keith wanted a burger (leave it to a man�s stomach�.). After supper, we went in search of ice-cream and ended up at a Cold Stone Creamery. It was a simple, ordinary evening� and the perfect first date.

I handed in my letter of resignation that Monday � my boss didn�t seem to care and surprisingly it didn�t seem to matter that it was only a week�s notice.

Late summer turned to early autumn: I�d traveled with Keith before, but never this extensively. I enjoyed being on the bus with him, being there to meet him as he came off stage every night, and seeing his shows. It was great to see someone I cared so much about realizing the dream he�d worked so hard toward.

The flirting with his fans didn�t bother me. Maybe it should have annoyed me that Keith had, on any given evening, numerous women throwing themselves at him. Maybe it should have bothered me that he flirted with them all, and even kissed and hugged a few of them � but it didn�t. It was all part of the show, part of his job. I knew that it meant nothing, I knew that I had something they didn�t � I had his heart.

This was not good� not good at all. For the third morning in a row, I was sick� sicker than I�d been in a long time. I was sitting in the bathroom floor on that third morning when Keith got out of bed and came looking for me. I heard a light tapping on the door. �You alright in there, babe?� He asked through the closed door.

�Yeah Keith, I�m fine, just getting in the shower,� I only half lied � I really was going to take a shower. I pulled myself up out of the floor, willing my stomach to settle and stay that way. On the first day of this, I thought it was just some kind of bug, but now, on the third day, a calendar had told me that that probably wasn�t the case. I sighed as I stepped into the warm water and let it run over my neck and back � it felt marvelous. The bus� limited water supply meant I couldn�t linger there long, and a few minutes later I washed myself, and after rinsing, enjoyed the feeling of the warm water on my skin for a few more minutes before shutting it off and stepping out of the shower. After drying off and wrapping a towel around my hair and another around my body, I opened the door to the cramped bus bathroom and walked back to the main bedroom to dress, where I found Keith digging through his clothes and mumbling about how he should have done laundry sooner.

�Problems, sweetie?�

�Um kind of,� he answered, lifting his head from the depths of his clothing. �Have you seen my t-shirt that says �Hellbilly� on it?�

�Didn�t you wear it a few nights ago?�

�Yeah.�

�Then it�s probably still dirty.�

He cussed under his breath a pulled a solid white t-shirt out of clothes collection.

�Hey Keith, do you think we could find a Wal-Mart or some kind of drug store to go to?� I asked as he pulled the shirt on over his head.

�Sure thing, sweetheart, you needing something?�

�Yeah � female stuff,� I replied.

�Oh,� he said, blushing. �I think there�s one just down the street, get dressed and we can take a walk. I saw a Harley Shop down there too � I�ll go in there while you get your, um, things.�

My stomach was mostly settled by the time I was finished dressing and Keith and I set out on our walk to the drug store a block away.

�Aren�t you coming?� Keith asked as he headed to the bus door to go for sound check. I hadn�t missed one yet, but I had something I had to do.

�I was thinking about lying down for a little bit. I didn�t sleep very well last night and I�m kind of tired.�

�Oh, OK. Are you sure you�re alright?�

�Yeah Keith, I�m fine, just sleepy.�

He walked over and put his hand on my forehead. �Alright,� he said, apparently deciding that I didn�t have a fever, �Come and get me if you need anything, Ok babe?�

�I will.�

�Love you, sweetheart,� he said, kissing me.

�I love you, too.�

Once I was sure Keith and the guys were in the venue and had started their sound check, I opened my purse and pulled out the purchase I�d made earlier that day � a home pregnancy test.

I walked to the bathroom while I opened the box, and then read the directions. I followed them carefully and then set the timer on the microwave in the kitchenette. Those were the longest four minutes of my life and I jumped when the timer ended. I pulled myself up off of the couch and walked back to the bathroom and picked the test up with shaky hands�

Those are the longest few minutes of your life!! Waiting for that timer to ding, oh a girl could lose her mind during that time. Nice story.
