First of all, let me say that this is kind of sad for me to be writing my final review for the Alive in ’06 tour. But I was very lucky in that I got to see Keith three times this year. Let me start way back at the beginning, when the mishaps began. I saw Keith in Greenville, SC back in November and had a great time. I was ecstatic when the second leg of the tour was announced. I had eyed the Tallahassee date since it was posted; it is about 4 hours from me. But I decided I would be happy with seeing Keith in Huntsville on Valentines Day instead. At the time the Tallahassee tickets went on sale I did not know what my schedule was going to be like so I did not buy any. I went to Huntsville and was a little disappointed in the show. The music was great but Keith was not his usual animated self, totally the opposite of the Greenville show. So I got to thinking about Tallahassee. I got my schedule from the hospital and I considered it a sign that I did not have to work that day. I also spoke to a friend in SC who mentioned she wanted to go to see Keith in Florida. So, I went online and bought really bad seats on ticket master. I was kind of sad to be sitting in the back but I was not in the financial position to go through eBay or a ticket broker. We had a great road trip planned out, girls gone wild in Tallahassee. My great plans were shattered a few days later when she was arrested (minor charge, long story) and could not leave the state until her court hearing. So, I called up another friend who had gone to Greenville with me (actually, she got the tickets) but she of course had to work. Even my threats of kidnapping her would not sway her. So, I was forced to take my husband. That sounds kind of mean, but we have not been getting along well lately and the idea of being in a car with him for 4 hours made me think twice. But, I tried to focus on Keith and how this would be the last time to see his show for a long, long time. Two days before the show I came down with the stomach virus that has been going around lately. I have never been so sick in my life! Ironically I wanted to be a few pounds thinner before I went to see Keith, and I was. I lost 5 pounds in twenty-four hours I was so sick. Anyway, Friday the fever broke and I made a miraculous recovery. So, I got a co-worker to watch the dogs and off we planned on setting off to the great state of Florida on Saturday morning. Well…around five ‘o’clock Saturday morning I awoke to the sound of a rainstorm and my husband telling me he was sick with the stomach virus too. I checked the weather radar and saw nothing but rain from here to Florida while my husband claimed he was dying. I was about to cry when I reminded myself that other Keith fans had gone through much worse to see a show. So I braved the rain, ignored hubby’s pleas for a peaceful death and packed him into the car. We got to our hotel in Tallahassee that afternoon. I tried to convince myself that with a shower and a nap hubby would be better. He wasn’t; so at seven PM I left for the show by myself. I got lost in downtown Tallahassee, drove through several neighborhoods before finally asking some nice young men for directions. When I finally got to the Civic Center it was quarter to eight. All of the parking lots were full. I finally found a parking garage that was open and tried to blend in with the crowd of latecomers making their way to the venue as well. Once inside the Civic center I bought a tee shirt and made my way to my nosebleed seats. I got to see the last song of Pat Green and chatted with the nice couple in front of me. They had been to the Blue Room Experience and told me how excited Keith was and that it was going to be a great show. And they were right!!!

[> important part -- kennedypratt, 16:42:00 02/26/06 Sun [1]

Keith took the stage with full force at eight thirty. After the second song he told us that it was going to be a long night and since it was Saturday night, to “call the babysitter because you are going to be home late.” He charged thru his regular set with so much great energy, much more excited than Huntsville. The band was really feeling the crowd as well. Both Jerry and Chad flashed some expensive looking watches to the video monitors (large round watch face with diamonds); perhaps this was an ‘end of the road’ gift from Keith? In addition to the usual set he sang “Take it to the limit” on the satellite stage. Chad and C-Rod did a great job with backup vocals. Keith thanked everyone that had traveled a long way to get there, joking “I know some of you came 10...15 minutes to get here, that’s amazing.” The YLGIMS girl had a sign with neon arrows on it. She was so excited to be up there with him and sang well. She had the same first name that I do so I swooned whenever Keith said it. She gave Keith a red glow stick. He had the light tech turn down the house lights so he could play with it. He asked her, “don’t they make little ones that you stick in your mouth.” She said yes and pointed to someone in the audience who had one. Keith said, “oh good, I thought you guys were eating them.” He put the glow stick in his pocket and said, “I’m going to have fun with mine later.” The people sitting on the side risers in front of the stage platforms were very lucky. Keith signed several things for them during songs, shook hands and wore one girls straw cowboy hat for a song (then gave it back). The encore was the best. Keith announced that they were done with the set and were going to break it up and give it to people. The crew dismantled the entire set while the band played for over thirty minutes. Some of the “rocks” were broken up and thrown out into the crowed, the lights came down and the floor covering was pulled up (Keith almost tripped). I know someone else with a better memory will post a complete set list but from what I can recall they played: Brand New Man, 8675305, You may be wrong but you may be right, Sweet Home Alabama (I had to go all the way to Florida to hear him sing it), Hurt So Good (duet with Pat Green) and The Joker and a few others I can’t remember. Pat Green was very funny and was trying to get Keith to moon the crowd with him. Keith laughed and said “naw, I play guitar man.” During ‘The Joker’ Keith pushed Jerry and Chris to the front microphone to sing a verse at different times. He stood behind them near their usual mics, and then he pushed each of them with his head in the middle of their back, kind of marching behind them while still playing his guitar. He thanked the crowd many times, saying that it was bittersweet to end the tour. He said that it had been an amazing year, both professionally and personally. I was kind of sad to watch him take the final bow, fling his wrist band into the crowd (no shirt removal like in San Jose) and walk off the stage for the final time. But I look forward to the new album and next years tour.

During the encore Keith got mad at the security on the floor. He said, "you security guys get the hell out, these people came to have a good time, you are ruining the end of my show. I'm serious, get the hell out." They did leave and the crowd moved into the aisles towards the stage. I couldn't tell at first if he was angry or kidding. But a few other people who were closer said he was a quite serious. It was kind of exciting to see 'angry Keith'! I thought of bird.

[> [> [> Wow, KP, I'm so happy for you! Sounds like you had a great time (if you don't count the virus and the drive, neither will I. lol!). I had the nose bleed seats in San Jose last year for his first "end of tour" date, but don't envy me. My companion bolted as soon as they finished "These Are the Days," so I never saw the shirt coming off at all. I'm glad you got to see him happy again. Congrats! -- Mo, 01:54:09 02/27/06 Mon [1]

[> [> Hey, KP! Thanks for posting your review here! It's so great hearing all these stories, everything you all do to "be there". And Bird, I love your new lyrics - LOL! Perfect! -- Feathers, 11:44:25 02/27/06 Mon [1]
