"I advise you to look at the WABC Saturday Night Oldies message Board and see the reaction to Dan Ingram."

No one ever said the cult didn't exist. These people would have applauded if Ingram had belched. The Ingram who finished up at CBS-FM was a shadow of a once-great DJ. Naughty double entendre jokes aren't nearly as funny when Grandpa is telling them.

" I am 54 years old and I am still productive."

Not the issue, for the 10,000,000th time. The belief is that people over 50 are not as likely to be influenced by radio advertising. Is that correct? I have no idea. But the people who spend the money think it's right, and they set the agenda. Money talks.

"If you took a poll of the people on this board they will agree with me."

Again, the cult.

There are other oldies stations in other markets. Every market is different. Most of the surviving stations in bigger markets have made major music adjustments and have advanced the clock forward. You'll hear a lot more Billy Joel than Dion. Except for maybe a speciality weekend show, the 50s and pre-Beatle 60s are dead on these stations. And even the '60s have been scaled back greatly and replaced by disco-era '70s and '80s.

"It is obvious to me you are not a fan of good radio."

Oh, but I am. I was a huge fan of CBS-FM when it was at its peak and was still a viable station. But that was a good while ago. Times change, audiences change, market conditions change. The CBS-FM that was great ran its course as a viable station.
