That philosophy doesn't work for everyone.... I tried it once, it cost me greatly....

...It breaks down to worldly differences. In Hael'Yule, that way of thinking could get you killed. You had to plan routes to get from one point to another to avoid street gangs and roaming predators. You had to know exactly who the hit men were and how to keep track of them because you never knew when one would come after you. You had to know social hierarchs and play into them just to ensure that you would be able to get enough food to survive on..... Being raised there, it's not possible for me to take things as they come. I suppose that's why I'm so.... ineffective.
