Randy - I admit to wondering about the same thing myself when the original organizers presented this - the folks who wrote the guidelines actually have some extraordinarily detailed CSR info on the uniforms and equipment, including boots, frocks and mounted trousers. Rest assured though, John Duffer, US commander, has already passed the word that shoes, sacks and infantry trousers are just fine. This is one of those times where you present what was actually worn by the original troops but expect folks to wear what works, hence the broad guidelines.

I have worn boots on a 20 mile jaunt with no problem...but would always prefer shoes if I had a choice, which the feds for this event will have.

What does not show up in the guidelines is the leadership going on behind the scenes.
