Cool. I still think that it may be irresponsible to even put boots on the guidelines. At least put some sort of disclaimer like, "If you have no experience marching in boots & don't already own a well broken in pair, DO NOT wear them to this event."

It's just a little heart breaking to watch guys fall out of a march that they have been excited about for months. It's probably going to happen anyway, but I think simple guidelines about footwear and socks could limit it to a few instances. Foot care/ management & frequent exercise is the ONLY way any modern cubicle inmate will complete this march.

It's fun to talk about material impression of a unit, but IMHO it won't matter a bit after the first 5 miles or the first drop of rain. A good pair of shoes, able leadership, determination & food/water will be the only parts to count.
