Interviews are the next day. If a judge is trying to decide after the stage competition who their top girls are, this is where Elisabeth can excel. CMN "donation", tickets, travel expenses, hotel, meals, etc. All this on top of wardrobe, talent related expenses - classes, tracks,etc. There is your platform work and scrapbook. Then you have the DoE, Gala and whatever else the Board comes up with. If you do get to compete at Miss Alabama, the additional CMN, tickets for your family, hotel and meal expenses for many families take a big amount of money. All this on top of being a student and regular life responsibilities. Most families spend more than the girls ever win in scholarships. I guess you could say there is more substance to Miss Alabama, but there are more and more people that simply can't afford it or don't want to commit the amount of time and effort required. Entry fee is $1100 and winner gets no scholalarship whatsoever. At least Alabama USA is upfront with how much it costs and has one fee that covers everything. The girls that compete in preliminaries all year easily spend that much in travel expenses and tickets for the family that attends, plus DoE and other extras. Even if you cap the CMN at 4 preliminaries, you still have to come up with 250.00 for state competition. That is 750.00 just for CMN. So I guess you have to be privileged to compete in both systems.
