(He smiled at her firm words, nodding a little as she came over to get Chase.) I'm glad it wasn't.. that's for sure. (He had too damn much to live for to even consider wishing he had been in the place of those other people.. and oddly enough, he only felt a little selfish over that. Once she was gone, he carefully got to his feet and slipped out of his jeans, reaching behind his head to pull his polo off with one hand, then his undershirt, leaving him in just his black jockeys. By the time she returned, he was at the foot of the bed, opening the trunk that lay on the floor and pulling out a second blanket to shake out over the bed. He leaned heavily on the matress to make his way back to the bed, turning to gingerly settle his body back down again, careful to keep the heavy blankets off his leg. He watched her as he lay there, thinking about Chase and the new baby, and how pretty she was in the dim light. He loved having the car-sized skylight in their penthouse bedroom.. they could lay in the huge four poster and watch the stars every night if it was clear enough.. and the light cast into the room was almost ethereal. He pushed his shaggy hair back and sighed as she climbed into bed beside him, reaching for her as soon as she had laid the blankets over herself, wanting to hold her until he was asleep.) It should be.. we can always get a space heater or something.. if you are concerned. (He tipped his head to place a kiss to her forehead, smoothing his hand over her hair.) I like how you plait your hair at night. (He murmured absently, that filter not catching his thoughts before they escaped his lips.)
