Anon2, I think Ginny is talking about what used to be called "contour" douche syringes. They were like a regular bulb syringe, but the pipe and shield were molded together as one unit. The nozzle was like a modern bulb douche for the first half of its length, then it smoothly flared out to the width and shape of the biggest rubber shield. I was a little girl back then and saw pictures of them in a lot of catalogs, but had no chance to see or use one. I used to wonder what they must feel like when you were using them. I think they might have sealed a little better than the sliding shield type syringe, but I wondered if I'd like feeling that thick pipe trying to wedge me apart. They were almost all bulb syringes, but I vaguely remember seeing ads for one or two fountain syringe sets with contour douche nozzles.

Our family syringe was a combination syringe that came with a bulb-type douche nozzle, complete with sliding rubber shield. It screwed right on to the end of the hose. The set also came with an infant rectal, adult rectal and regular narrow vaginal nozzle and it had a Higgenson bulb in the hose too! It should have been enema heaven, but for some reason my mother only used the hot water bottle and all the pipes and hoses and stuff stayed in the box it came from, buried in a corner of the hall closet. Mom gave us our few enemas with a bulb syringe.
