I would only go to a female doctor for female part stuff. I value the fact that a woman can truly understand having a period, having cramps, etc etc. A man can have all the education in the world, but he will never truly be able to relate to any of your same feelings or concerns. My beloved pediatrician and a wonderful endocrinologist were both male. But for the girly stuff.... only women for me.

I didn't know an OB/gyn could prescribe more but honestly I'm comfortable with both, and both are men a few years older than me, that I've used for years. I think the gyn is still a bit rough when it comes to pap smears but I still respect him a lot for all the help we got when we had fertility issues, etc. And our GP is the head of the teaching group at that hospital - he's wonderful. They both used to work in the same hospital (gyn moved to private setup) and so I'm sure they respect each other's opinions/Rx's.
