I fully agree with you Michael. I live on a side street cornered by Lakeview Ave. and Mammoth Rd. and these issues have been a concern for us as well since moving here four years ago. People constantly cut through our little side streets coming from New Hampshire to avoid the intersection of Mammoth and Lakeview and people heading to New Hampshire do the same. They whip around corners and speed to make sure that not even one car will get ahead of them that has gone through the intersection. I also have 3 small children and am nervous for their safety when they want to ride bikes or rollerblade. Officer Curtis did come out here to meet with us and address our concerns. He immediately had some children and speed limit signs installed. But the reality was that we could not have a cruiser stationed on a street throughout the day. Most neighborhoods throughout the town are plagued by speeders and the police only have so much manpower. The ideas of speed bumps, one ways, and limited thru-way hours were dismissed right away because then every street would have the right to do the same and that would make a horrible mess. But not just one neighborhood deserves a guarantee of safety and round-the-clock police presence. Maybe some sort of committee can be formed with neighborhood representatives, town reps and safety officers to decide how to develop a town wide plan to combat speeders and enforce safety in our neighborhoods. I would be willing to join.
