It is estimated that the completed value of the park when finished will be approximately $1.5 to $2 million dollars.
The completed parts of the park include the construction of replication and detention areas, sewer and drainage pipes, construction of the access road, grading of the parking lot, installation of underground electrical, cable, gas and telephone, completion of Soccer field #1, completion of Football Practice Field, Irrigation of Soccer Field #1, construction of the Veterans' Memorial Monument, and the installation of the Tot Lot K-6 and 6-12 as well as the water spray area are currently under construction and will be completed in the next month or so. We have also planted many trees in the park as well.

The value of this completed work is estimated at around 700-750 thousand dollars of which the town at a previous town meeting appropriated $250,000 dollars. The balance of $500,000 was obtained from Business donations, sports group donations, fundraising by the Veterans Park Committee, $100,000 state grant that we applied for, and numerous service donations from local contractors.

We are estimating that with continued support from local constractors and continued fundraising that the park can be completed for approximately $350,000. There will be an article at Town Meeting to see if the town residents wish to appropriate this money to complete the park. We will, however, be applying for another state grant which if we are chosen will return up to $250,000 back to the town so the appropriation from the town could be as low as $100,000. This grant is a reimbursible grant, which means that we must spend the money to be eligible for reimbursement. This is why we have proposed the article for Town Meeting. It will be up to the residents of Dracut to decide.

The remaining projects include two little league fields, another soccer field and a football field. Also, a walking tract around the perimeter of the park with various kiosk and picnic areas. We will be working toward the construction of a concession stand which will include restrooms and storage areas for each of the sports group. We are hoping to build this with a lot of volunteer services and hope that this will help to support the upgrades to the park in the future.

I hope this answers most of your questions, but if you have more, please feel free to ask.

May Paquette
