I congratulate Celeste for her courage to come forward and also for her indepth knowledge on the issue of the power plant.

I think her presentation was well thought out and written in a caring, open-minded and respectful manner.

Although we might not all agree with each other thoughts and feelings on the subject, no one will benefit from the insulting and disrespectful tone that has taken over this discussion.

People view things differently in life. Some show great passion while others can remain calm while making decisions. We all need to respect that some people will fear the unknown, especially when it is right on their doorstep. Others are simply not experienced in technical areas such as what is presented by this power plant.

The point is, when you are concerned about yourself, your family, and your biggest financial investment, your home, people shouldn't trivialize your fears, as unfounded as you might find them to be. Fear and concern are real emotions that people experience when they feel they might be in jeopardy. Questions regarding their health, the health of their children, and their property values are valid and no one has the right to belittle these people for experiencing these emotions.

If these plants were 100% safe and there were not ANY concerns what-so-ever, every town would build a power plant.

Please let these people air their concerns and find the answers they need to go on and enjoy their lives and their homes. Speak to them with the respect they deserve and not as stupid, plant-fearing NIMBYs. That is unwarranted and rude.

When buying a home, you check the school system, highway access, distance to shopping centers, and the neighborhood. Regular homebuyers in a single family neighborhood don't analyze the possibility of a prison, powerplant or trucking terminal getting built next door.

This power plant might be a great thing for the town, or maybe not. But as town officials, the selectmen should heed the concerns of their constituents, even if they don't agree. They are still responsible to the voters and should be there to answer any and all worries on any matter.

Let's all work together in addressing the fears and concerns and deal with these issues as a whole: the Town of Dracut, not as an US against THEM forum.
