I respect your thoughts on the subject, but, having dealt with this issue for years now I have come to realize that there are a certain minority of people that feel that their concerns are the only concerns. I totally agree that the Selectmen should listen to their constituents and their concerns. But, I also believe that they should not listen to a few people that think they know what the rest of the town wants or needs.

The Utility Environmental Committee that I belonged to submitted a non-binding ballot questions a few years ago that strived to determine the twons thoughts on whether a power plant would be welcomed in Dracut. By a 2/3 to 1/3 vote, people said they would support siting a power plant in Dracut.

Again, when it comes to stating why something should or should not be sited in an area, there should be solid technically justifiable reason why. My point of view of this particular sitiuation is that the propoents have presented a sound case base on facts and true potential benefits. Opponents have based their case on emotional responses with little site specific information and alot of general, unsubstantiated "facts" of the impact of this proposed facility. Also, it appears that when challenged to produce real facts on the actual proposed project, most (NOT ALL) tend to hide behind respones riddled with defensive, emotional responses which skirt the issues! This statement is not meant to "belittle" anyone, it is MY perspective as to the course of debate on this issue for the last few years.

Let's face it, nothing is 100% in this world, but, I would take a well-engineered facility anyday over almost any other risk taking venture (including stepping into your car and driving the mean streets of the Merrimack Valley!).

I apologize to you and anyone else who feel that I have presented insulting or belittling postings. I try to present facts (with a little editorial comment added to spice things up, facts tend to put people to sleep!).

Enjoy life!
