Ed,

I am not sure what your question has to do with the questions I have asked. My concerns center on health issues and I am patiently waiting for answers.

The Selectmen have said they would never go forward
with this unless there are absolutely no health hazards
etc. So, obviously they have gotten the guarantees and I would like to hear them. And the source matters - I don't want to hear from people who earn their living from the power industry (either as employees or industry consultants). I want to hear from someone who looks at the Merrimack Valley and the air we currently breathe. There are no town boundaries up in the air.

As for your question about industry (high tax revenue, least impact) ... I do not believe we get free lunches. Sometimes the payment comes later, sometimes it looks more inexpensive than it turns out to be. But if this is such a great deal, why aren't all the other towns around here inviting the power industry in?

Dracut may have the best location, but there are plenty of others that are close to ideal - as evidenced by other plants that have to spend more money to connect to pipelines or distribution systems - or that use air-cooled systems instead of water cooled.

Nothing is stopping Methuen, Lawrence, Andover, Lowell... and their tax revenue problems can't be much different from Dracut's. I can't imagine their turning away from a free lunch...

Still waiting,
Celeste
