Date Posted: 13:04:30 08/20/07 Mon Hi Everyone. This is Gina, AGG NC Director. I feel at this time it has become necessary to come here and straighten a few things out. There are posts on this board that are misleading, a few half-truths, and some that are purely vicious lies. I expected that everything about AGG-NC would be bashed. I was bashed for several weeks after it was announced that I had taken this directorship, I was bashed before and after my August 4th double… right down to discussions about my personal life and my husband, and I’ve been bashed because of the state pageant. I wish I could say that I’m shocked, but you must realize that my family has been getting bashed since Ansley began competing, and years ago I too received my fair share when I competed. The reason for my post, is I know (unfortunately) there are some moms who will read the garbage on these boards and they may believe it. They haven’t spent the 15 years in pageants I have to learn how some of you people are. Anonomity in pageant posting is a breeding ground for falsehood. The prices, titles, cash awards, etc. for AGG-NC state are fair. They are based on the expected number of contestants, certificates for fees off that I know are out there, the probability of a certain number of contestants entering certain categories, the cost of hosting the pageant, the cost of crowns, etc. There are a few of you who know what is being given at state. Those are the people who are excited to be coming. The thing is, if you don’t email me and ask… you don’t know. What you all need to remember is I’m a pageant mom too. I know how it feels to go throw down a grand for an entry fee and have my daughter leave the ballroom with a plaque. No trophy, no crown, no toys, just a plaque. I wanted to add more titles, so that more of the kids could go home with a crown and sash, plus give great gifts to all the contestants. I know that is what is important to them, and the implication on these boards that I’m not thinking of the children should be turned around to the parents who are so focused on the money. Would you rather your child be treated to a great pageant, or have a little more money to take back home with you? If you answer the second, you should reevaluate why you are in pageants. You also have to remember, without good numbers it is impossible to do both. The implication that I’m trying to “line my pockets” from this pageant are ridiculous. I put a lot of thought, calculations, time and effort into determining a good break-even point for this pageant and the expected number of contestants. I learned quickly that not everyone enters all the events or optionals, although that is what we have always done. When you are giving away and have given away a lot of Supreme Packages paid, and then realize most everyone is only entering the Supreme Package… there goes your break-even. I created package prices because there were only two preliminaries before state to receive fees off. There are contestants out there with their Supreme Package paid in full. Other fees off range from $50 to $150. Because I know everyone is getting ready for back-to-school, Dream Dolls, Tropical Dream Stars, etc. I extended the package price specials to the general deadline of 9/1. If I receive your $150 deposit by 9/1/07 you can enter the following packages: Ultimate Supreme Package $450 for EVERYTHING Photo Package $375 Stage Package $375 Supreme Package Only $200 With 25 Contestants I will award an Ultimate Grand a $1,500 bond. With 20 Contestants I will award all of the titles in the paperwork (not 25 as originally listed), although other directors are seriously advising me against this. I am more than happy to add a cash prize for Queens if the numbers are there to do so. With less than 20 the titles will awarded according to the paperwork. Here are the titles to be awarded with 20 contestants: 2 Grand Supremes $500 bond 2 Supremes $300 bond 2 Gorgeous Girl Face Supremes $200 bond 2 Novice Supremes $200 bond 2 Beauty / Photo Supremes $200 bond 2 Beauty / OOC Supremes $200 bond 1 Talent Grand Supreme $100 bond 8 Beauty Queens 8 Gorgeous Girl Face Queens Regarding the Conflict of Interest posts about my daughter: Ansley rarely competes in the Carolinas. If anyone would like to point out a specific conflict of interest you see, please feel free to email me and do so. I have several friends who are directors who have children who compete at all levels, I know coaches who have children that compete, and vendors of all kinds have children who compete. It was that way when I began competing years ago, and I haven’t seen anything change. I am trying to be fair to everyone and do what I can to make a great pageant for the kids. However, I know that regardless of what I do or the changes I make, I will get bashed. I have talked with Shelia about the comments on these boards, and I feel renewed by her confidence in me as a director. She wouldn’t turn this system over to someone who she didn’t believe knew what she was doing. I have 15 years of experience in pageantry, at all levels… glitz, MAO, LMNC, USA, as a judge, as a tabulator, a pageant mom, as a contestant, etc. I may not be running this pageant identical to SC, in the way that you would, like your grandmother would, like your aunt would, etc... but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong. I know what to expect in NC, and my pageant reflects that. I have a family too, and I’m not interested in losing a couple of thousand dollars to make you all happy. I am interested in putting on an excellent state pageant, at a great hotel, with prizes the kids are going to love, beautiful crowns and sashes, an awesome emcee (Mr. Tim Sharpe), fair honest judges who have no connections, and a level playing field for all contestants. I am more than happy to give away what I can in cash & prizes if the numbers are there. If that isn’t enough, then I apologize that this pageant will not meet your needs. Regarding the constant comparison of NC to SC. These two pageants have never had the exact same paperwork. I know they wouldn’t have this year even had I not taken over for NC, and I know they haven’t in the past years when I competed. I’m not sure who out there expected it to be that way, or why they had that expectation. I would not mind at all to award the same as SC, if NC were to have the same numbers. It would stand to reason that if the SC pageant pulled in numbers from NC and SC, that NC would have a hard time doing so. Why compete at a state pageant you have already won? The same theory applies to Faces SC state, which pulls in a lot of NC girls, and to AMBG, which was open to NC, SC and other states and awarded titles from NC, SC and one out of state. It’s very unreasonable to compare these pageants when you look at the competition. If anyone has any questions or comments, you can always email or call me. I won’t be coming back to this board to respond to posts be they positive or negative. I really have other things to concern myself with, and right now, I don’t need the stress and negativity some of you cause. ;;;-) I think some of you take pageants more seriously than I do, and maybe I’m wrong… to quote another pageant mom who I have learned a lot from & have a lot of respect for – “pageants are for the experience, not the crown”. The NC Mountain State Fair is ending on the weekend of the pageant. If you’ve never been, this is an awesome fair. We usually take Ansley several days if we can. They have a petting zoo, rides, horse shows, etc. You can google it. Anyway, I will be paying admission to the fair for up to 2 parents per contestant and the contestant who want to attend on Sunday. I know Hendersonville is a quite a trip for some of you, and I think that would make it worth staying over one more night , but then again, I'm thinking of the kids there... We always try to make pageants about seeing friends, having fun, and doing something other than a pageant while we are there. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
