Irish Dance Families Off Topic Board
Welcome to the new board! Let us all strive for a polite board open to discussing topics other than Irish Dance (although a bit of that will work in, I expect). Anything that you wouldn't say in front of your Mother shouldn't be said here. Unfortunately there can be no discussion of politics on this board. We have tried and there are those among us who cannot treat this subject with civility and politeness; because of that all of us are being punished for the actions of a few.

I hate my kitchen cabinets....more inside -- frustrated, 16:15:35 11/10/09 Tue [12]
(builders grade oak) 15 years old, but don't have the money to replace them. Husband says their fine, of course. But I can't look at them another day.
I 've already replace the knobs but that didn't help. Has any one tried painting cabinets? If so can you give any tips or is this a crazy idea.
What if I do it and hate It? HELP.

Cake Frosting -- recipe needed, 07:09:56 11/13/09 Fri [4]
Hi, does anyone have a nice buttercream or whipped cream frosting recipe? Something "light"... and I don't mean light in calories, just something that isn't so heavy on the sugar taste:-) I usually don't like the buttercream because I feel like I'm biting into a sugar cube. I love a whipped cream frosting, but it doesn't usually "set" well.
I have a new raspberry cream filling recipe that I'd like to try, so something that will go with that. This board is always so helpful.. Thanks!

We live North of Boston, and my daughter's boyfriend goes to Cornell. It's a 350-mile drive for them to see each other. So for Christmas, I'd like to get him a gift certificate for gas, since it's such a long drive when he comes here and gas is so expensive. But I'm not sure what gas stations are common on the New York State Thruway and the Mass Pike. Does anyone know that area? What brand of card should I buy? Thanks!

One of the woman at work is pregnant with her 4th. She is 35 and had 1st baby at 15. Her kids now are 20, 18 and 15. Her first boyfriend abused her and the kids and she left him. She has a new boyfriend who used to work with us but got fired. He is a drug/ETOH abuser who can't hold a job. Everyone is so excited about the baby-the baby was planned. There is a shower I would like to skip. I am a supervisior, not her direct one but it's kind of hard to get out of. I feel bad for the baby, not happy. She can't take care of the ones she has and the last thing she needs is another. Should I just buy something small? I don't want to be cheap but money is tight for us too. We stopped at 2 kids because that's what we could afford.

Regarding Financial Aid (below) -- It's an expensive game., 09:52:59 11/08/09 Sun [14]
You need to get a financial planner who specializes in Financial Aid to college. You can be a multimillionnaire and still get a free ride if you know how to shelter your assets and income.

It's a complicated game and you need to get started right away.

We had NO IDEA how it worked and did it w/o a planner and got nothing.

Even if you are just in the middle range of income, if you do not "PLAN" you will end up with nothing.

If you want to play the game, play it right. We did not.

did it as a young adult for a few years and hated it. I'll try almost anything else. I have lots of good work experience, including many years doing commission-only outside sales, at which I was very successful. I am currently "under-employed" but will keep this job because the hours and benefits are good for my family life. The $$ not so much. I also have a college degree.

Kid has straight Bs, ACTs between 21-24, 9 time World qualifier, teacher assistant, community leader, and 2 siblings already in college. Is there any hope for a scholarship? Do we make too much? Seems you have to be poor or have amazing grades to get $.
