Irish Dance Families Off Topic Board
Welcome to the new board! Let us all strive for a polite board open to discussing topics other than Irish Dance (although a bit of that will work in, I expect). Anything that you wouldn't say in front of your Mother shouldn't be said here. Unfortunately there can be no discussion of politics on this board. We have tried and there are those among us who cannot treat this subject with civility and politeness; because of that all of us are being punished for the actions of a few.

DD needs to find two novels for her grade 12 University level english course. She needs to do a research essay on it, so there has to be some kind of a background to it: Maybe the author's life affecting the story in the novel, or how it compares to true events, etc. It must be a novel. She is drawing blanks on this, any help ?

Today is the first day in 11 days that I have not been sick. The last 4 days, I was on the couch 24/7. I called the Doc and they are going to call me back, but is it too late to save my family? I'm pretty sure it is. Husband doesn't feel good, nor does my daughter. Both of them slept most of the day yesterday, but went off to work and school this morning. Doc doesn't really like the Tamiflu idea since it is costl;y and has side affects and only shortens the sickness a matter of hours. Any advice from someone else who has been thru this?

This is the fourth week since discovering the critters. Happy to say that this is also the 2nd week that we have not found anything!! Checking the head every night and we've been completely clean since doing the second treatment (according to package directions) at the 10 day mark. We spent hours combing through hair manually removing nits and anything else we found. Never thought it would be over...was holding breath. But the OTC product worked well, along with our diligence.
Thanks for everyone's advice. I learned a lot, and it certainly put the whole thing in perspective.

I'm looking for advice, understanding, wisdom. My brother and his wife, her parents and their precious family of 3 have decided to move across the country. -- distraught, 18:15:02 10/04/09 Sun [9]
They live in NY now and are all relocating to Mesa, AZ. My neices and nephew are under the age of 12. We see them now about every month or two. We currently live about an hour away. My sister and brother (both have families) are also upset. He is not leaving due to a new job. He owns his own failing business and needs to get out. He sold his house in 1 day. Because he now has very little assets, he is moving in with his inlaws that are moving out there due to health. MIL has bad arthritis and needs the heat. He is telling me housing is dirt cheap, etc. I'm just so sad. Anyone been through this? Everyone in my family and extended family lives close (farthest away is 2 hours). Please give me some nugget of advice so I feel better. Thanks.

My sister in law is sitting in jail for conspirisy to commit murder, because she texted someone at her former work that she would kill her x boss with a gun if she had one. Someone turned it in to the cops they came and picked up her and someone else, we don't know all the details, but they confiscated the phones. So just be careful what you text and email in anger, it could ruin your day!!!

We were awoken this morning at 4:00 to the blaring sound of the alarms going off. It was beeping and saying fire, fire, fire...We all ran out, with the exception of my dh, who went to investigate the basement. It is a newer system to us and we have no idea what to do with it. I have an email in to our contractor, but wondering if anyone had this problem before. We can't find the instruction booklet, of course!

My 1st cousins daughter is getting married in a month and we have been invited. My husband and I not our kids. Our oldest son is 19 and away at college but younger daughter is 16 and can not stay home alone. The wedding is a night one on a Saturday night 2 hours away and would involve an overnight stay. My husband doesn't want to go and hates to dress up so he was going to stay home with daughter. My parents aren't able to attend due to health issues. It would be great to see my cousins. We are not very close and have not seen each other for about 6-7 years. The bride I haven't seen since she was 10 or younger. I hate to go alone but don't want to be rude either. I haven't RSVP'd yet but I was planning on going if my parents were going. I don't even know who I'd sit with and I am not good at driving alone to NYC where wedding is. What would you all do?

She is only 1 1/2 hours away, so she could take a train every weekend. Is this a reasonable consequence for doing poorly? Or, do I wait until she has been officially put on academic probation at the end of the semester? I would like her to feel some consequences now while she still has time to turn things around.
