Irish Dance Families Off Topic Board
Welcome to the new board! Let us all strive for a polite board open to discussing topics other than Irish Dance (although a bit of that will work in, I expect). Anything that you wouldn't say in front of your Mother shouldn't be said here. Unfortunately there can be no discussion of politics on this board. We have tried and there are those among us who cannot treat this subject with civility and politeness; because of that all of us are being punished for the actions of a few.

The woman teacher was a no-brainer, lol as she loves flowers and gardening, so we got her an Amaryllis kit. But, I'm stumped as to what to get the two male teachers. I know, there's always gift cards, lol, but they seem so impersonal as a thank you for something they did that was very personal. If it helps, one of them teaches science, the other history. One has a young family, the other is a middle aged bachelor. My dd, of course, will attach a personal thank you note to whatever we get.

16 yr old DD sick for 2 days with fever (hasn't been below 101 in 24 hrs), cold symptoms, cough, now vomiting. Fever didn't come down with Motrin or tylenol. Should i watch her or take to ER. Dad says ER, I say watch. Whenever I take kids to MD they are like they have the cold going around, rest, meds ect.

I believe so strongly in the power of prayer. My sister's husband, who we love dearly and has never had even a stitch or broken bone has been hospitalized with an infection after some outpatient surgery. We are all worried about other, very serious consequences of the surgery and the infection. He is scared and discouraged and needs prayers, so if anyone can offer some up, we would all be so grateful. His name is Doug.

Am I the only one who is getting sick of the daily sales calls from "local contractors" (not calling from local numbers, never heard of their company, mispronounce the name of my city) wanting to come to my house and give me a "free estimate" on any work I need done? I know times are tough, especially for contractors, but these guys really seem like crooks to me. Isn't it supposed to be against the law to make sales calls--I'm on the national do not call list, but these guys just ignore it. I just had two calls within an hour. Both were extremely rude to me when I asked them not to call me.

Out of curiosity, do any of you own a contracting business? Do you cold call people to find work? Is this the norm for reputable contractors?

I am a practicing Catholic who has not partaken of the sacremental wine at Church for years. Why does the Church continue to use a communal cup in this age of serious communicable diseases. Right now, it's flu, but honestly, it could be anything from the common cold on up. I'm sorry, but the wipe with the napkin after every person is not sanitary. I also have a problem with holy water. at our Church if you look...really look at the water, there are floating things and it's not clean. I am not a germaphobe, but just can't help noticing these things. Do your churches do anything different? Like dipping the Host?
