someone said give the PM post to mahathir. hellloooo???? Crooked bridge, billions of dollars in forex losses, time, mas, perwaja, bakun dam, IPP etc need I say more? Mahathir created a system where the "boss" cannot be questioned, Mahathir's system cut off the rakyat's "balls". Put whoever there also no use because the system is corrupt. Only 1 way to give power back to the people - ONLY way to change is to change the system ie vote Opposition.

VOTE OPPOSITION.

So whats the strategy for delaying UMNO elections to after the country's GE? Is that how one holds the balls of UMNO delegates and big shots? At least until after the GE. So now Badawi ensures he can survive till then at least and hope that Mahathir dies before that? SO abdullah assumes here that he can once again swing 90% of the parliamentary seats once again? Well, he can if he wants to make an ass out of u and me!

I don't intend to preach about PAS, but try living in kelantan. Very tolerant & fair towards 'other' races & religion. unlike other states.

dont believe media too much about negative reporting of kelantan.

What is perhaps relevant is did those who profit from this scheme pay any income tax. The D.G of inland revenue has always gone after the small businesses to pay tax.Can the IRB please confirm that tax was received from those people who made millions from the oil for food program. If not then all businessman should stop paying tax.

Yes, I live in Kelantan and its Taliban like rule is very nice. Mna and woman have separate queues in supermarket, muslim woman who dont wear tudung get on the spot fines,Separate swimming pool for man and woman. If you want tobuild hotel make sure you build two swimming pools. No night live here, no snooker and billiard place to play, no empat ekor shops here cos its haram,Thursday nite not allowed any form of entertainment. Yes Kelantan is like syurga. Its like the graveyard at night. Vote PAS for Taliban lifestyle. Also if they rule the country they will intro HUDUD Law. then they can start cutting off your hands and stoning the woman who are being rape. Yes hudud Law la Iran style.
VOTE PAS FOR PROGRESS TO ISLAMIC LAW>

Jan, Cinama,
what are you guys talking about... voting for PAS ? What are you smoking? What you're suggesting is like swinging the pendulum from one end of the extreme to another extreme. Just remember what Taliban did in Afghanistan before you vote PAS. PAS is an extremist party and is only nice to the non-muslims today to fool you to get your votes but once they are in control, they'll turn the table around and tear you apart. No one should vote for any political party that explicitly proclaim their struggle to be based on race or religios. It's another recipe for discrimination biased in their own favor.

what can we do?..
1. Vote for DAP or Keadilan. I predict a joint DAP + Keadilan will be a potent combination in the next election. They may not be ideal, but I think they are the better alternative today compared to PAS or BN.

2. Fact is, opposition parties will not form the next government anytime soon, because most Malaysians are still blinded by the BN lies since their only access to information is through the pro-government newspapers. They are not very well informed especially if they don't have access to independent news like MT. But, we, the more informed people of Malaysia, need to spread the word and start by voting more opposition into the parliament to deny BN 2/3 majority or at least trim them down significantly, so that BN doesn't get to abuse their power anymore. we need the check and balance in the government!!

By the way, I am not politically affiliated. Just sick of the BN lies and abuses. But, not a fool to believe PAS either.

Every minister, senior government servant, politicians and the influencial & powerful people did write recommendation letters. Pak Lah has been too transparent and it is a good start for the country but not necessarily for Pak Lah himself. The rakyat are now monitoring Pak Lah and many others .......

To those interested in this issue, I suggest you read the Volcker report yourselves rather than rely on a second hand account by someone whose objectivity is at best questionable. There are some glaring inaccuracies in this article, whether deliberate or otherwise:

1. "When we add the two values, the amount earned exceeds US$ 1 billion!!"

Earned?! The oil was not free. It had to be paid for. In the case of Mastek, it was paid for by Vitol, a Swiss company to whom the oil ultimately went. Mastek only received a commission of between 21 and 27 US cents per barrel, most of which went back to paying the kickbacks to the Iraqi government. The Volcker report suggests that Mastek in fact made very little money from the deals.

Here is what the report said:
"Mr. Shareef and his partner, Jaya Sudhir, used commissions from Vitol to pay surcharges on the Mastek contracts. Vitol has denied paying any surcharges or knowingly financing them. When Mastek did not have sufficient funds to cover the surcharges assessed, it threatened to bring a lawsuit against Vitol. Vitol settled the dispute for $2 million, most of which was used by Mastek to pay the outstanding surcharge balance."

2. "The Volcker Report indicated that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had written a letter to Taha Yassin Ramadan on November 13, 2000 recommending a delegation headed by Mr. Faek Ahmad Shareef and Noor Asiah Mahmood (the sister-in-law of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) for the purposes of obtaining oil allocation."

Abdullah's letter was written on November 13, 2001 (not 2000). By that time TradeYear and Mastek had already been allocated and in fact collected most of their oil. So, why would he be writing a letter of recommendation for oil allocations that had already been received? The answer is he didn't.
The letter was to recommend a trade delegation to Iraq headed by Asiah and Faek. The reason it was mentioned in the report was to show that Faek had access to Abdullah as he had claimed to the Iraqis. Abdullah may have been wrong in writing a recommendation letter for his relatives, but it certainly does not prove that he even knew they were buying oil from Iraq, much less that they were giving the Iraqi government illegal kickbacks.

Following are footnotes from the Volcker report:
"see also Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi letter to Taha Yassin Ramadan (Nov. 13 2001) (recommending delegation headed by Mr Shareef and Noor Asiah Mahmood). The Committee has not found any evidence that Mr. Badawi had received any benefit from the oil allocations traded by Mastek, and Mr. Shareef and other Mastek shareholders have denied that Mr. Badawi received any benefit from the oil traded. Jaya Sudhir interview (Aug. 19, 2005); Faek Ahmad Shareef interviews (Aug. 15-18, 2005). When asked about the letter sent by Mr. Badawi to Mr. Ramadan recommending the delegation headed by Mr. Shareef, Mr. Shareef indicated that Mr. Badawi had issued the letter as a way to support the Malaysian private sector and had done so for other Malaysian companies as well. Faek Ahmad Shareef interviews (Aug. 15-18, 2005)."
